What To Expect On a Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) in Nicaragua

What To Expect On a Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) in Nicaragua

We love hosting yoga teacher trainings (YTT) at our retreat center in Northern Nicaragua. Since opening a year ago, we’ve already had the pleasure of hosting two YTTS with Glow Yoga Retreats. And we look forward to hosting even more as the years go on.

Psst, don’t forget you can always hire our venue to host your OWN yoga teacher training. We have the perfect space for it.

What is a YTT?

Yoga Teacher Trainings are required in order to become a certified yoga teacher. You must start first by taking a 200 hour yoga teacher training in order to be a teacher. If you wish to further your education, then there are a variety of continued education courses you can take (make sure to check out our library for self-paced options).

Or, you can take another full yoga teacher training course of 300 hours, which tends to specialize in something specific.

Sometimes, employers will pay more if you have 500 hours of training. Some studios even require 500 hours in order to get a job at all. If you plan on teaching your own YTTs one day, you must have 500 hour of registered education.

What to Expect from a 200 hour YTT?

We like to think of the 200 hour course like your General Education (this will make sense to our American readers who went to University). And the 300 hour course is like the classes more closely tied to your major.

The 200 hour YTT provides the foundation from which you’ll grow upon. The 200 hour YTT will also have a specific lineage or style at the forefront (our’s is Hatha/Vinyasa), so that it’s cohesive.

Hopefully your 200 hour course provides a curriculum that allows you to walk away from the experience KNOWING HOW TO TEACH, although (sadly) many courses do not. This is why it’s so important to do your research before you pick a course, so that you can invest your money wisely into your career.

200 hour Yoga Teacher Training in Nicaragua

Lucky for you, if you’re interested in taking the plunge into your first 200 hour YTT, we’ve got just the one for you! One of our favorite yoga schools, Glow Yoga Retreats, is coming back again with world renowned teachers to lead their 200 hour course here every fall and spring (all of their trainings are registered with Yoga Alliance).

One of the best things about the Glow Yoga Retreats 200 hour YTT is that it’s a hybrid model, meaning it’s half online and fully self paced. This allows you to watch/listen to the lectures as many times as you need, before putting it all into practice in person. Plus, you’ll get to keep the lectures FOREVER to refer back to as many times as needed.

The other great thing about this model is that the cost is lower for you, rather than booking a hotel for a full month, or taking a full month off of work.

You can expect LONG days in the Yoga Shala, where you’ll put everything into practice that you learned through the virtual lectures previously (especially cueing, sequencing, hands on assists, and anatomy).

We’ll gather from sun up to sun down daily, to ensure you have an adequate understanding of how to teach a yoga class safely and effectively.

One of the best things about this training is that we are only accepting a maximum of 14 people, which is quite SMALL compared to many other schools. Small groups mean plenty of time to practice teaching, and plenty of hands on attention with your teachers!

Food on a Yoga Teacher Training in Nicaragua

All of our packages provide all 3 meals, and one snack daily. If you don’t already know, we’re fully plant based here at Still Salty Escape. Which can be a little scary to some people, but we promise you won’t be going hungry!

Check out our sample menu on this blog to get an idea of how you’ll be eating.

Although some YTTs are super strict about everything from caffeine and sugar, to alcohol and smoking- we prefer to let you choose your own journey, rather than controlling your experience. Knowing that we’re all adults here, and all of age, you can decide if you prefer to have a more cleansed experience, or maintain your same habits.

Community on a Yoga Teacher Training in Nicaragua

Anyone who comes to our events, whether it’s a YTT or a retreat, always comments on the strong sense of community.

Not only are you deeply cared for by our staff, but you’re also looked after by your lead teachers, AND one another! We love seeing photos of groups meeting up in new countries around the world, or planning reunions to come back and see us year after year.

Yoga Teacher Trainings can be an emotional experience, which can bring up A LOT in a short period of time. Not only is your lead teacher there to hold the space for you and your group through this revelation, but you’ll also find the bonding experience together to be one that’s truly unforgettable.

What to Pack for a Yoga Teacher Training in Nicaragua

Check out our blog that has a complete packing list.

AND, don’t forget to pack a fully white outfit for graduation day! Another great reminder is to bring a journal.

As indicated above, emotions tend to be at an all time high during YTTs, as it’s an exploration of the inner and outer world. What better way than to get all of that reflection up and out of you, than through regularly journaling? This has been a fan favorite for most guests who choose to journal at sunrise alongside the sea.

Most importantly, TRUST. I know it’s easy to be nervous before taking the plunge, but TRUST that if you’re getting the tug to go on this event, then it’s the right event for you!

Let us know if you have any questions. Hope to see you this November, amigos!
